2008 All-Star Game - American League extends streak in memorable fashion

Incredible is an understatement of the All-star game last night...From start to finish there was excitement and entertainment. I really enjoyed the beginning of the game when they announced the starting lineups with all of the Hall of Famers. Seeing some of the best players of all time from Willie Mays, Yogi Berra, Hank Aaron really made this game feel special before it even started. It also made me remember how special those guys were to the game, and brought back good memories of Bobby Mercer (although he is not a HOF player he was a great guy and phenomenal announcer).
The actual game was probably the best I have ever seen. It started out like most, a pitchers dual. Tons of strikeouts (34) and there wasn't a run scored until Matt Hollidays 5th inning home run. It didn't take long however with the AL to strike back in the 7th inning with a J.D Drew two run home run. I thought it was all over when NL 2nd baseman Dan Uggla of the Florida Marlins committed back to back errors. This gave the AL bases loaded with no outs. However, Aaron Cook didn't seem to overwhelmed getting out of the inning without a single run scored. Mariano Rivera came into the game with what seemed like the biggest ovation I’ve ever heard, pitching a perfect 1.5 scoreless innings. After a few more scoreless innings by various pitchers Scott Kazmir sealed the deal in the Top of the 15th inning. The game didn't end with a blockbuster home run but with a sacrifice fly by Michael young in the bottom of the 15th inning.
After nearly five hours of play the Al won and secured its home field advantage in the playoffs for the 12th straight year. What a game.

Hopefully this will kick start the Yankees into gear and use the AL win make the last season at Yankee Stadium truly memorable.

2008 HomeRun Derby - A mediocre lineup, only to be remembered as the Josh Hamilton show

I am not a huge fan of the home run derby, but I believe that the 2008 home run derby was a huge disappointment overall...Yeah I know what you are thinking Josh Hamilton broke a record hitting 28 home runs in the first round and it was at Yankee Stadium. I'll give it to you that was something special, but he didn't even end up winning the thing.
The player lineup was the worst I have ever seen there were no big time power hitters. I mean where were the Bonds, Griffeys, Puljols...I know A-Rod turned them down and it was a disappointment but they need to get some more big hitters to make this thing interesting. To host it with a bunch of "average" home run hitters is not the way to go. Berkman and Hamilton is a good start but they only comprised of 25% of the field. MLB please step up your game and make this a more memorable experience next year.
Lets hope the final Yankee All-star game turns out alot better
